Common Name: Giant Dioon
Description: One of the tallest and most impressive cycads, native to the rocky slopes of Mexico. Slow-growing and exceptionally long-lived, it can eventually exceed 15 metres in height, although plants in domestic gardens typically reach around 3–5 metres. It thrives in full sun, tolerates some frost, and generally grows faster in sunny positions. Its rugged trunk is topped with attractive, stiff, feathery green leaves. Suitable for tropical, subtropical and formal landscapes, it also performs well in large pots or tubs. Its striking form and texture make it an excellent feature plant, but care should be taken near pathways because of its spiky foliage.
