Common Name: Bromiliad Rubra
Description: Alcantarea imperialis Rubra are large bromeliads that originate from Brazil. Its base grows to up to 1.5m wide and has a a dense rosette of wide strap-like leathery leaves with a smooth margins. The leaves are silvery/green upper-sides and dark burgundy red undersides. The plant can take from between 8- 20 years to flower, when it does, it produces a 3m tall flower spike which can last for 12 months.
