Common Name: Snow Pear

Description: The Pyrus nivalis is a small to mid sized, deciduous tree with upright growth and a broadly conical habit. In Spring it is noted for the profuse white blooms that cover the tree, the new leaves appear at the same time followed by small greenish/yellowish fruits that are sour to taste. The leaves grow to an elliptical shape being silvery/green in colour with white velvety undersides. The Autumn colour is a brilliant red. They prefer fertile, well drained soli in full sun but can tolerate wet and dry periods. With its magnificent blooms, contrasting foliage and brilliant Autumn colour this is a great specimen tree for parks and gardens alike.
